Secretary General of LATO Sigita Struberga participates in the broadcast “Two Hemispheres”
On 30th July, Secretary General of the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation Sigita Struberga participated in the broadcast “Two Hemispheres” (“Divas puslodes”). She discussed issues of interest, such as the British-Chinese relations, the new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Asia, as well as the relentless protests in Russia.
British–Chinense relations have been damaged to the extent that the British Government has formally announced the abandonment of the Chinese information technology company Huawei‘s involvement in the development of 5G mobile infrastructure. Relations splintered after London sharply criticized the new Hong Kong National Security Act, which threatens Hong Kong‘s autonomy and the rights of its citizens. Meanwhile, Asia has started a new wave of Covid–19.
The discussion also focused on protests in Russia, when an unprecedented number of protesters emerged on the streets of Habarovsk last weekend, expressing dissatisfaction with Kremlin policy. If, at first, the people of Habarovsk protested against the detention of Governor Sergei Furend, then slogans against the Russian President Vladimir Putin are now increasingly being raised at rallies.
