Panel discussion “Is Belarus lost to the West?”

Panel discussion “Is Belarus lost to the West?”

In 2020 people of Belarus visibly demonstrated their need for a liberal and democratic future through widespread protests which led to the imprisonment of more than 1300 individuals. Since then the situation has become even more strenuous as the state has doubled down on supporting Putin’s regime in Russia, rather than mending the relations with the West. The future of Belarus depends on the will of the people. In this discussion,we will try to answer whether there is a place for Belarus in the West, what role does its authoritarian leader play, and further evaluate the possible future scenarios for the state that chose a different path than their Baltic neighbors after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
