Game “Are You Ready for a Crisis?”

Game “Are You Ready for a Crisis?”

“Are You Ready for a Crisis?” is an interactive educational game developed by the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO) to strengthen public preparedness for a wide range of crisis situations. Through realistic scenarios and guided discussions, participants assess their own level of preparedness, explore appropriate responses to emergencies, and develop a better understanding of individual and community resilience.

The game includes 10 crisis scenarios covering natural disasters, technological accidents, military threats, and other emergencies, including floods, storms, wildfires, hazardous material spills, terrorist attacks, military strikes, transport accidents, prolonged power outages, and misinformation related to nuclear incidents. Each scenario encourages participants to consider how they would respond and what preparations they should make before a crisis occurs.

For each scenario, players complete a self-assessment worksheet by answering practical questions about emergency response, trusted sources of information, communication with family members, meeting points, shelters, critical infrastructure, and supporting vulnerable members of the community. The activity concludes with a group discussion where participants compare their responses, exchange experiences, and identify best practices for crisis preparedness.

The game is designed for use in schools, youth organisations, municipalities, NGOs, and civil protection training sessions. It serves as an engaging educational tool that helps assess participants’ existing knowledge while fostering practical preparedness, community cooperation, and resilience in the face of emergencies.
