Empowering Rural Voices: A Media Literacy Project for Informed Communities

From 1 October to 31 December 2025, LATO implemented a project aimed at strengthening media literacy and critical thinking in rural regions of Latvia, focusing on local community leaders and active citizens. The project combined preparation, training, and communication activities.
Project was carried out in cooperation with regional and media partners, including Liepāja and Krāslava District Partnerships, the Media Development and Research Centre, ReTV, Radio TEV, New East, and Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences.
The project developed training materials and delivered five in-person workshops across Latvia using a “train-the-trainers” approach. The sessions addressed disinformation, technology- and AI-driven manipulation, and critical thinking. In total, 86 participants were trained.
After the training, participants organized activities in their communities, ensuring knowledge transfer. The project concluded with a broad communication campaign reaching a wide audience across Latvia.
The project was supported by the German Embassy in Latvia.
