Akhaltsikhe International Security Seminar 2008 (AISS) is a 3-days long intensive seminar jointly implemented with the Georgian NGO “new Generation - new Initiative” (nGnI), the Information Centre on NATO in Georgia and Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO), with the support of the Latvian and Georgian Ministries of Defence. In 2008 the topic of the seminar is “Russia-Georgia Conflict Aftermaths: Policy Priorities for Europe and Black Sea Region”. Due to the August war, the seminar has been postponed and will be held in Georgia, Tbilisi on November 24-26, 2008.
12 Latvians and 12 Georgians aged 20 to 30, who represent different regions and ethnic backgrounds from both countries, will be selected to take part in AISS. They will have an opportunity to learn from and develop an exchange of views with policy-makers representing the international community as well as Latvian and Georgian governmental, academic and media sectors. Preference will be given to students who study social sciences and international relations, and those actively involved in the NGO sector. Participants can also be young people who have recently obtained their degree and are now working in governmental, mass media, academic or NGO sectors. The working language of seminar is English.
Application must include the application form, detailed CV and an essay (max 3000 words) on the topic of the seminar – „Retaining secure, democratic and prosperous Georgia: challenges and solutions”. The essay must reflect applicant’s own writing and original thinking with academic listing to any reference sources used. The deadline for the application submission is November 9, 2008. The 25 chosen candidates will be informed about the second selection round by e-mail on November 12, 2008.
